EVERY YEAR, AIRBNB share the homes on the site that have been added to the most wishlists – and this year, the Irish Airbnb people dreamed of staying in the most was… this.
This Airbnb is an actual 600-year-old castle near the village of Craughwell, a 25 minute drive from Galway City.
For €130 a night, you can rent the master bedroom, right up in the rafters:
The castle is not a tourist attraction – the place has been refurbished, but as the listing says, it’s not pristine like a hotel. Visitors can expect:
Lots of winding staircases, a castle that has been lovingly restored, but there are some cobwebs, and it gives you the real Irish castle experience. There are lots of sheep and cows in the nearby fields, but lots of peace and quiet.
There are turrets and stone staircases and log fires – but as castles were never designed with showers and toilets, the facilities look a little like this.
But it’s all part of the experience, isn’t it?
So who is putting their castle up on Airbnb? His name is Peter, and he’s a stonecutter working on castles all over Ireland who just so happens to live in one as well.
Judging by the reviews, he’s an excellent host:
The castle was a wonderful experience and we loved every moment with our family. Pete and Ava could not have been anymore welcoming and made our visit even more memorable. A lot of love and care has gone into this castle and is reflected in the joy it gives you when you stay there.
The perfect place to live out your Game of Thrones-ian fantasies.
